Bloem Show, in partnership with Bloemfontein Courant, is showing their gratitude to frontline workers who sacrifice their wellbeing in the fight against Covid-19. The Stay Safe, Mask Up campaign will be providing care items to local health workers.
According to Bloem Show CEO, Elmarie Prinsloo, the campaign began when the organisation realised that there was a need for a local eff ort to support medical staff. “During the second wave of Covid-19, we saw the need to show our appreciation and support for local health workers and professionals.
We took hands with Bloemfontein Courant to make a contribution together and show appreciation.” The campaign encourages both businesses and individuals to also show their gratitude. As part of the care items each healthcare worker will receive an Nkosi Bar and letter of appreciation and love from school children.
“Schools will be involved by making make sure each of these healthcare workers receives a letter from a pupil showing appreciation and love. Let’s take hands as businesses and our community to make a contribution to show our love and that we care. Nkosi is a nutritional bar that is an initiative of musician and songwriter Joe Niemand, which is equal to a fully balanced meal.”
It is a very simple tool available to anyone who wants to spread some joy, hope and a serious gift of nutrition to the community and can be accessed at www.nkosibar.co.za. R10 will give one Nkosi bar to each of the 6 000 local healthcare workers.
Individuals are welcome to donate care products while businesses can pledge a company contribution, challenge staff to contribute or just make an individual contribution.

The facilities at the Bloem show grounds are utilized throughout the year and not only during the annual Bloem show. Facilities can be rented for various purposes including events, expos, functions, auctions, storage and office facilities. Over the past 20 years several developments have also been done in and around the showgrounds – this includes the Showgate shopping centre, Total Garage, Fruit & Veg City and Virgin Active gym.

- Only dancing and singing will be allowed.
- Performance may not be longer than 3 minutes.
- No bands are allowed, only “back tracks” and acoustics.

The winner will be awarded a well deserving R10 000 cash, with the second place runner-up receiving R5 000 and the third place winner gets R2 500. The remaining 7 finalists will also receive R500 in cash.
20 Semi-finalists will be shortlisted and then go through to the semi-finals on Saturday, 27 April 2019 at the Wimpy stage at Bloem Show.
The final concert where the winners will be announced will be held on Tuesday, 30 April at 18:00 at Bloem Show’s Wimpy stage.
These finalists will also get the chance to participate in the category of “Best newcomer” at the annual Golden Bean Free State Music awards later this year, thus contestants are urged to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
