BLOEMSHOW
HISTORY - SHORTENED VERSION
The 125th year of existence of the Central Agricultural Society was celebrated during the 2008 Bloem Show (1883 tot 2008).
The original Orange Free State Agricultural Society was established on 25 May 1882 and later became the Bloemfontein and Orange River Colony Agricultural Society. The first committee of the Central Agricultural Society was established in 1909. The show continued as normal during the First World War. The show stayed in touch with modern developments and in 1917 the first tractor was exhibited. The show stopped during the Second World War and the first show presented again after the war took place in 1947. After that the show grew from strength to strength. Today it is reckoned as being one of the largest shows in the country.
